Design Concept and Inspiration

Inspiration: Ellen Lupton’s “How posters work”

I chose to use an image as the background because, as Lupton stated, "images have a narrative." An authentic photo from the ITP Camp page perfectly captures the essence of the ITP experience, which revolves around digital and technological innovation. Positioning the student as the focal point of the poster felt appropriate, as they are central to the ITP show.

Inspired by Lupton's idea of "powerful diagonals," I incorporated diagonal text alignments for the dates, location, and show description to create a sense of drama and energy, adding vibrancy to the poster. Additionally, drawing from Lupton's example of a hand-drawn movie poster by Market Mosinski, I decided to craft a hand-drawn interpretation of the text "ITP Show" instead of using a standard font. To emphasize the importance of students, I designed the typography to fill the shape of a human figure, symbolizing their role as the heart of the show.
